1782 Hester Bateman Georgian English Sterling Silver Teapot urn finial London
A fabulous oval Hester Bateman sterling Silver Teapot! Weighing 13.9 troy ounces, this 5 1/4 inch tall by 10 long by 3.5 inch wide teapot is rare in that it was not modified in the Victorian era to add repousse or engraved decoration. As a result, it appears to be a rather plain Hester Bateman piece. Bearing a simple beaded rim and foot and urn finial and bone heat bands to the hollow handle, the teapot is a fine, early example of Bateman's work. Bearing London "g" 1782 hallmarks, the piece is in good shape, with a slight crease suggesting a restoration to the lid, evidence of poor quality soldering to the pegs on the handle, small dents to edge of handle and spout and a couple light dents to the body.
A great piece, given the popularity of Bateman. The item "1782 Hester Bateman Georgian English Sterling Silver Teapot urn finial London" is in sale since Saturday, August 25, 2018.
