Hallmarked for Alexander Field of London this hallmark was used 1789 - 1814 this teapot is believed to be from 1801 (internet research states the same 3 touchmarks with the letter M was used in 1807 - this teapot has the letter G which was 6 years earlier). Beautifully detailed engraved design all around & up the spout has the same design on both sides the engraved initials in the shield are only on one side on the bottom, scratched into the silver is an engraved name looks like T. Beneath the name are the letters S S (perhaps standing for Sterling Silver). From the edge of the handle to the tip of the spout it measures 9 3/4" across from the top of the finial to the bottom it measures 5" the pot measures 6" across, 4" high. This over 200 years old teapot has some issues that are commensurate with age: the wooden handle has a crack that goes all around - it has been shamefully repaired with a modern day screw the spout has wear at the tip the finial has some tight cracks & sits a bit crooked - still tight & useable there is a hardly noticeable shallow indentation of the top of the side that has been engraved with the initials.
