Superb George III 3 piece tea set in heavy gauge silver. Comprising teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug. Half-fluted, shell and acanthus capped decoration, angular scroll handles and ball feet.
Gilt interiors to bowl and jug. Each piece with silver hallmarks.
Large set with dimensions as follows. Ength (handle to spout) 27cm, height 14cm. Sugar Bowl length (handle to handle) 22cm, weight 369 g. Milk jug length (handle to spout) 19cm, weight 268 g.
All hallmarks well polished but legible apart from maker's. Crowned leopard's head: London. Date letter a and monarch's head: 1816.
Maker's mark possibly Robert Hennell (part legible on teapot and jug, not on bowl). Teapot hallmarked to main body and handle base.(hallmark pics: teapot pic 9, bowl 10, jug 11). For accuracy, some very small light dinks to teapot (hardly noticeable). Silver surface otherwise superb throughout with rich patina.
Teapot hinge good, lid fits very well, pours well, no leaks. Gilding inside bowl and jug still very strong. All decoration clear and crisp. No repairs, no engravings, no erasures. The quality of the silver and craftsmanship is of the highest order.
