ANTIQUE GEORGIAN ENGLISH SILVER FOILED PASTE FLOWER BROOCH c1750
A terrific, good sized, antique early Georgian English, solid sterling silver brooch; set with fabulous hand-cut and shaped foiled pastes. In the era in which this was made, paste was a new synthetic gemstone at the cutting edge of technology that was highly sought after and only within reach of the wealthy and important of the time - they were almost as expensive as the diamonds they simulate! The brooch was originally a clasp for a choker or bracelet, converted in the Victorian period.

It dates from around 1750 or earlier and is in good, fully wearable condition for its age, with all original stones present, a couple of nicks and light wear to their facets, and the back is pretty dented - but it retains its shape and looks great from the front. It weighs 14.6 grams and measures 1.5 x 1.25 inches. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter. What's more, I offer layaway deals so there's no need to let any of my listings slip through your fingers - just ask!
