This superb Antique Vinaigrette is formed in the shape of a Ladies Purse Bag beautifully engraved to create the illusion of Embossed Leather, capturing all of the detail down to the stitching at the sides and on the bottom. The Lid opens to reveal a Foliate Pierced Hinged Grille with Gilt Interior and what appears to be the Original Sponge.
The overall condition of this superb piece is very good (please see photographs), although commensurate with age their is a shallow'ding' or'push' to the reverse side & the chain that forms the handle is broken and is held together by cotton (as shown in the fifth photograph) - although this could be repaired quite easily. The Vinaigrette is properly marked for the Period. With Hallmarks in the Inner Lid and on the Base of the Purse (see pictures 2, 3, &4) with the following. King's profile (Could be George III or George IV, not sure - please see photographs) , Makers Mark -'L&Co and the Lion Passant mark to indicate Sterling Silver; although neither set of marks has either a date letter or town mark. The Vinaigrette is approx' 18.0mm high and 20.0mm wide (at its widest point) and it weighs: 5.5 grams.
