Antique Late Georgian Silver Counter Or Gaming Box. C1820
An antique Georgian silver counter box of plain and elegant form. Unmarked but tests as silver probably dates from the later Georgian era c1820. The lid crested with a most interesting combination of winged helmet/crown and a lion bearing a halberd emerging from a crown. With a little patience this unusual crest could surely be identified and perhaps prove provenance. Made of very heavy gauge silver, there are a few dings to the silver body, but as the silver is of most sturdy weight then not really an issue.
The lid fits via a very strong and satisfying screw thread. It removes and replaces so very easily due to this well designed thread, making access and costume so very easy. A very collectable piece of Georgian silver that has great charm and that lovely patination from years of use. Also a fine example of our social history. Height:- 3.8 cm.
