Very Fine George 1 Sterling Silver Loving Cup. Assayed in London in 1726. This fine example of an early Georgian Loving Cup has two scroll handles. Chased and flat chased wrythen half-fluted decoration, a gilt interior. And sits on an applied circular base.
It is in remarkable condition for it's age. This Cup measures 4 3/8 (111mm) high. Wide across the handles, and a lip diameter of 4 3/8. There are 4 hallmarks on this Loving Cup.L' - For Timothy Ley, Grimwade #3843. This was his Sterling Mark before the'New (Britannia) Standard' required new makers marks. And it is presumed he reverted to it with the return to the Sterling Standard in 1720. Date Letter'L' for 1726 London. This Loving Cup is engraved with the Order of the Garter, housing the initials CH or CM.
