A beautiful antique Georgian Sterling silver milk jug or creamer of pear shaped form, on three ornate cast applied scroll pad feet, with a cast elaborate scroll handle that has an acanthus leaf thumb piece. The body has a scalloped rim and has been further embellished with repousse decoration with rococo scrolls, flowers, scale ground and shells. There is a vacant cartouche to the front of the jug. The terminals for the feet are adorned with relatively large leaf and shell motifs.Louis Hamon is recorded as working at Chandos Street in the parish of St. Paul, Covent Garden in the county of Middlesex in England. The base also has the engraved initials of the original owners : T I S. Some marking and denting to the body of jug from use. There is a small nick to the front of the spout.
There are traces of gilding to the interior. There is some wear to the marks.
This is only to be expected on an item of this age. It is 267 years old, George II was on the throne at the time this was made in the mid 18th century.
