An early Gorge II sterling silver tankard Date : Hallmarked in London in 1728 for Matthew Lofthouse Period : George II Origin : London, England Decoration : Domed lid with scroll thumbpiece. Reeded band on the tapered body. An elaborate engraved monogram that is disguised with scrolls and leaves, probably MW or WM Size : Height 18.5cms to top of thumbpiece Condition : Excellent, one 2mm shall ding on the cover Restoration : None Weight : 808 grams (29 Ozt). The hallmarks on the flank and beneath the domed cover are clean and clear. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971.
