Georgian hallmarked Sterling Silver Cruet Stand & Later Condiment Bottles 1805
Georgian Sterling Silver Cruet Stand. This set is contained in a sterling silver cruet stand.

This has a rectangular base with concaved corners, four ovoid struts that support circular holders with roped edging and there is a long, looped handle. The stand is clearly hallmarked for London 1805 with the makers mark of Joseph Ash I. Unfortunately, the original bottles werent with the stand so I have matched a set that look as if theyre from the same period but are from the turn of the 20. All the glass bottles are of faceted circular form and taper to the feet.

There are 2 oil/vinegar bottles with faceted glass stoppers, a mustard pot with silver plated hinged lid and a shaker with silver plated cap. There is also a silver plated mustard spoon. These bottles do fit in the holder well but there are a few issues with them as described below. The stand is in beautiful condition with no damage or repairs and it stands nice and level with only a fractional wobble.

The decorative work around the bottle rings is still nice and crisp. One oil bottle is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The other is fine with the exception of a 25mm (1) surface chip along the top of the flared rim. The glass of the pepper pot is in good order but the collar has been re-glued at some stage and its possible to see the edge of the glue. The top of the collar and the cap both have quite a bit of pitting (blackening & wear) which will be caused by contact with acids.

Unfortunately, the mustard pot has a crack that runs across the middle of the base and about 38mm (1.5) up the body across one half. Its possible this broke off and was re-glued at some stage as there is possibly some glue residue visible. Should it break away in future, it should be a clean break which would be quite easy to re-adhere. The spoon is in very good order.

Ive tried to show all aspects in the photos below and the condition of the bottles and the matching of the set are reflected in the asking price. I source and re-home high quality antique and vintage silver at wholesale prices. On the odd occasion, I come across something that might have had a bit of a rough life but deserves a second chance rather than being consigned to the melting pot. In all cases, because buyers are purchasing from a distance, I always provide in-depth condition reports and multiple high-magnification images in my listings to give you as much information as possible.
