The cap is pierced with floral decoration and it is mounted with a a flower head finial on a curved stem and fringed with leaves. The pot stands on a circular pedestal foot which is fringed with flora and foliage decoration and the edge of the foot is decorated with a Herring Bone design. The pot is hallmarked to the base for London 1817 with the makers mark of George Knight. There is a further mark to the rim of the cap and, although this is very rubbed, its still possible to make out the date letter for 1817 and the Lion Passant. This piece is in lovely condition with no dents, it stands nice and level and the decorative work is beautifully crisp with the exception of some wear to the flowers on the cap.
However, after 200 years, there are some things to bring to your attention. The only issue I can find on the body is a very light bruise to the cartouche. There appear to be pinprick dints around the rim but Im fairly certain these are spot hammer marks. Unfortunately, the inner collar of the lid appears to have had two area of repair at some stage (as shown in the photos).I suspect these were to repair splits between the sleeve and the cap but, because of their location, they arent visible when the cap is in place. The sleeve is also slightly kinked and, although it fits securely in certain positions, it is very loose when set at others. The interior gilding is still in good order but there are a few areas of blackening. Height - 7.6 cm (3) to the top of the finial.
6 cm (2.4) to the rim. Diameter - 4.7 cm (1.8) across the top. 3.6 cm (1.4) across the foot. Please see the photos below and feel free to get in touch with any questions. Prices are calculated to include the weight of packaging as well as the weight of the item.
