Lovely Georgian Sterling Silver Tomato Dish & Cover 1781 London
Fine Georgian Sterling Silver Tomato Dish & Cover. Assayed in London in 1781, during the reign of King George III. This lovely oblong Georgian Silver Tomato Dish and Cover has cast and applied beaded handles. And beaded edge banding to the base. The oval finial sits atop an oval hand-raised section of the cover. On close inspection one can see the stake/hammer marks left from the forming of this piece. It is still in excellent, very usable condition, measuring 11 (280mm) long across the handles. 5 3/4" (146mm) wide and 3" (76mm) high to the top of the finial. There are 4 matching hallmarks on both the base and cover. Maker's Mark'BD' - for Burrage Davenport.
