This is a stunning Georgian sterling silver coffee pot made by Peter & Jonathan Bateman and hallmarked in London 1790. It is in very good condition and has ornate overall repousse decoration. It stands firmly on a raised circular base and has a Latin motto to the cartouche "IN SOLUS DEO SALUS" (ONLY GOD'S SALVATION).
The coffee pot is made with a heavy gauge of silver and the ornate handle is firmly fixed. Peter and Jonathan Bateman were sons of the famous Hester and continued the business after Hester's death. Unfortunately Joanathan died shortly after so the partnership with his brother lasted for only 6 months - hence the PB/IB makers mark being particularly collectible.
