Rare Georgian Wooden Treen Circular Travelling Inkwell
RARE GEORGIAN WOODEN TREEN CIRCULAR TRAVELLING INKWELL. This is a wonderful Rare Georgian wooden treen circular travelling inkwell , this lovely inkwell dates to circa 1810 making it nearly 209 years old, it has been crafted beautifully, to the body of this beautiful wooden inkwell it has been crafted and turned beautifully with a slight dome shape to the top and a central circular cartouche to the centre which has the makers mark and the royal crown below, i cant make out the makers but they must have been of a fine quality to have this crown below there name , on turning the body of the wooden inkwell it makes a wonderful sound as it opens, inside it reveals a lovely glass inkwell to the top and bottom with a facet design to the top, you can see this is hand blown as you will see bubbles in the glass, i dont think this have ever been used as its very clean, i dont know what the wood is but it has a wonderful almost rich butterscotch colour. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a wealthy Georgian Gentleman and used daily in a time when things were so very different, many years ago, this is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos don't do it justice, lovely condition.
